How I healed PCOS naturally

How I healed PCOS naturally

I discovered I had PCOS completely by accident while studying in London. I didn’t even go to the doctor for any obvious symptoms—I went because I’d had a copper IUD put in and was in agony (and yes, my pain tolerance is laughably low, but this pain was next-level). During the check-up, they decided to screen my uterus and found cysts on my ovaries. A few tests later, a doctor casually rang me up to say, “You have PCOS, but so do about 15% of women of reproductive age, so just keep living healthily, and you’ll be fine.”

There I was, 21, with absolutely no clue what “PCOS” even meant or what it would mean for me. Little did I know it was probably behind the fainting spells I had at work, the low blood pressure, and the intense wave of depression that hit every month.

Years later, I finally learned that I could actually do something about it. I decided to stop taking the pill, curious to see how I’d feel without synthetic hormones, but my period didn’t come back. And not getting your period as a woman feels… off. Around that time, I came across a Bossbabe podcast where women were talking about how they healed their PCOS naturally. Something just clicked. I got my hands on every book, podcast, and blog I could find, and I ended up flipping my whole lifestyle on its head overnight.

How I Healed My PCOS in Just Three Months

The biggest changes I made were to my diet, stress levels, and workouts—even though I thought I was already living a pretty “healthy” lifestyle. Here’s what really worked:

Diet

I cut out processed foods, dairy, alcohol, coffee, sugar, sugary fruits, and gluten. Not the easiest shift, but it was essential to reduce inflammation and give my body a proper reset. I focused on whole foods—lots of vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats—and even started timing my meals better to avoid blood sugar crashes. My energy levels became more stable, and the cravings started to fade.

Workouts

I swapped high-intensity workouts for things like yoga, stretching, and long walks (aim for at least 30 mins a day). This was a big shift for me—I used to think a workout only “counted” if I was completely wiped out afterward. But I learned to listen to my body and focus on what I now call “conscious workouts”—moving in ways that felt good rather than pushing through just to feel accomplished. Some days, that was a longer walk and other days, it was a gentle yoga session. Less stress, less inflammation, and, for the first time, I felt energised instead of drained. Ince my hormones was balanced I could introduce more intense training, and find the right balance for me.

Mindfulness & Stress Management

I’ve always been into self-care, but I really took it up a notch. I added daily meditation, prioritised getting 8 hours of sleep, stayed off my phone an hour before bed, and started going for weekly acupuncture sessions to support my hormones. PCOS taught me just how sensitive my body is to stress, so managing it became non-negotiable. Meditation helped a lot to keep me grounded—even on tougher days—and acupuncture was a real game-changer for regulating my cycle.

Supplements and Adaptogens

Alongside these lifestyle changes, I brought in some key supplements that made a real difference. I started taking Magnesium and B Vitamins (especially B6 and B12). Magnesium was brilliant for easing PMS symptoms and helping with relaxation, while the B Vitamins supported my energy levels and kept my mood steady.

I also began using adaptogens like Rhodiola Rosea and Maca. These natural herbs help the body handle stress, which is essential for managing hormone balance. Together, these supplements gave my body the extra support it needed to reset and heal.

My experience with supplements and adaptogens is what inspired me to create SVAAN—a line of cycle-syncing supplements designed to make it easier for other women to support their bodies through each phase of the cycle. After three months of living like this, my period finally came back. I can’t even describe how relieved and happy I was. I cried, laughed, and jumped around like I’d just gotten a puppy. And now, years later - it still comes every single month.
